“Never work”  (“Ne travaillez jamais”)  encapsulates the Situationist critique of the alienating and exploitative nature of wage labor, but more importantly, it embodies their belief in the possibility of a society where work as we’ve come to understand it would be abolished and individuals would be free to pursue creative and fulfilling activities according to their own desires and interests.  “Never work” was not so much a call for idleness but rather a rejection of the alienating and oppressive aspects of capitalist labor in favor of a more liberated and autonomous mode of existence.
