Celebrating Guy DeBord’s 1967 landmark publication, The Society of the Spectacle (“La Société du spectacle"), in which he critiques contemporary capitalist society as one in which human relationships and experiences are mediated and commodified through images and representations, leading to a state of alienation passivity and false consciousness.

Debord argues that the spectacle, characterized by the proliferation of mass media, advertising, and consumer culture, functions as a form of social control that perpetuates existing power structures and prevents genuine human connection and creativity.  The spectacle distorts perception, language, and thought, creating a society of lonely, alienated individuals preoccupied with illusion.

Alongside scathing critique, he offers hope for resistance and liberation. Debord suggests that by recognizing the true nature of the spectacle and engaging in revolutionary praxis, individuals can reclaim their autonomy and create authentic forms of social life.
